Julie Heckscher is an accomplished professional in international relations and legal governance, currently serving as the Head of the Regulatory and Legal Division at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade since 2014. In this role, Julie oversees the Australian Sanctions Office and Australia’s Foreign Arrangements Scheme while leading efforts to counter foreign interference through participation in significant taskforces. Previous positions include Head of Mission in The Hague, Deputy High Commissioner at the Australian High Commission in Singapore, and Deputy Ambassador at the Australian Embassy in Moscow. Additionally, Julie has experience as Corporate Counsel focused on sanctions and treaty processes. Educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Foreign Affairs from Monash University and a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the University of Tasmania, along with further studies at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Julie also contributes to governance as a member of an audit committee.
