Kate Hutchison has extensive experience in communications, media, and public relations, spanning over 15 years. Kate is currently serving as the Media Manager at the AFL (Australian Football League) since March 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Head of Communications at Top Shelf International from October 2021 to March 2023.
Kate also held the position of Non-Executive Director at Bowls Australia from August 2019 to November 2022. Before that, they served as the Head of Media and Communications at Swimming Australia from October 2018 to September 2021. In this role, they led the development and execution of communication strategies, managed media relations, and contributed to the creation of high-quality media content.
Additionally, Kate has worked as a Press Attache for the Australian Olympic Committee in July and August 2021. Kate also gained experience as the Communications Manager for Men's Cricket at Cricket Australia from July 2012 to April 2018, where they managed media relations, implemented media budgets, and developed an effective system for balancing media access and team preparation.
Before transitioning to sports industry roles, Kate worked as a Communications Executive at the New Zealand Rugby Union from September 2008 to July 2012. Kate'searlier experience includes serving as a Communications Advisor at the NZ Food Safety Authority from June 2006 to September 2008.
Throughout their career, Kate has consistently demonstrated skills in leadership, media management, strategic communication, and crisis management. Kate is known for their expertise in leveraging media opportunities and building positive brand positioning.
Kate Hutchison attended the University of Otago from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Political Science. Kate later enrolled in the university again in 2004 and 2005 to pursue a post-graduate diploma in Political Science.
