Francesco Sciortino

COO at Austrian Airlines

He completed his pilot training at the Lufthansa flight school. He started his flying career in 1997 as an A320 co-pilot with Austrian Airlines. Parallel to his career as a pilot, he began working as a fleet officer at Lufthansa in 2001 before being responsible for the German airline's baggage processes and heading up the newly founded Irregularity Management. From 2010 to 2011 he gained professional experience as Ground Operations Manager at Lufthansa Italia. He then moved to SunExpress Germany in 2015 as a project manager for the incorporation of the Airbus A330, where he subsequently also worked as an accountable manager. As Managing Director and Accountable Manager, he joined the management of Germanwings in 2017. Sciortino holds a coaching license as an Airbus A320/A330 captain.

Francesco Sciortino has been part of the Executive Board of Austrian Airlines as Chief Operating Officer (COO) since April 1, 2021. He is responsible for the areas of Crew Training, Flight Operations, Cabin Operations, Ground Operations, Ops Planning & Steering, Technical Operations, Safety, Security & Compliance Monitoring Operations and Operations Projects & Development.
