Simon McCaldin has extensive experience in business development and securing funding for research and development projects. Simon began their career as a Funding Consultant at Pera in 2007, specializing in nanotechnology. In 2010, they joined TWI as the UK & European Funding Manager, where they worked with the Joining Technologies department to develop technology development strategies and win European and UK funded R&D projects, securing over £7 million in funding per year. Currently, Simon McCaldin serves as the Open Innovation and Strategic Business Development Lead at Authentise, a role they have held since August 2022.

Simon McCaldin has a strong educational background in the field of Materials Science. Simon began their studies in 1999 at the University of Nottingham, where they pursued a MSci degree and successfully completed it in 2003. Following their undergraduate studies, Simon furthered their education at the same university, undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program from 2003 to 2007. Simon'sdoctoral research focused on the topic of Hydrogen Storage in Graphitic Nano-Structures.
