Willem van der Smit

Willem van der Smit has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Willem currently serves as the Director of Special Operations at Autocar Trucks, a position they began in May 2023. Before that, they worked at HFI from August 2020 to May 2023 as the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Willem's previous roles include Operations Process Manager at Autocar Trucks from June 2017 to August 2020, Lean Manager at FreightCar America, Inc. from August 2013 to May 2017, and Productivity Engineering Group Leader at Autocar from February 2009 to August 2013. Willem also worked as a Production Control Manager at Transeo Global Vehicle Solutions from September 2008 to February 2009, and as an Industrial Engineering Manager at Autocar from January 2006 to August 2008.

Prior to that, Willem held the position of Manufacturing Engineer at Union City Body Company from January 2003 to December 2005 and served as a Senior Production Engineer at General Motors South Africa from July 1995 to December 2002. Willem began their career as a Process Engineer at Aberdare Cables from January 1991 to June 1995.

Willem van der Smit completed their education in a chronological order. From 1989 to 1994, they attended Nelson Mandela University, where they obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Following this, they further pursued their education at the same university from 1995 to 1997, completing a BTech degree in Business Administration.
