Steef Akerboom has extensive work experience in the financial sector. Steef started their career in 2003 at the Ministry of Finance, where they held various roles including Coordinator Dealingroom, (Coordinating) Dealer Money and Capital Markets, Deputy Head Treasury and Debt Operations, Project Manager Public Procurement Payment Services Dutch Government, and Senior Policymaker Foreign Financial Relations. In 2016, they joined De Nederlandsche Bank as a Senior Expert Market intelligence until 2018. From 2018 onwards, they have been working as the Manager Capital Markets at Autoriteit Financiële Markten.

Steef Akerboom completed their Master's degree in Economics at Tilburg University from 1998 to 2003. In 2010 to 2011, they attended the Steenkamp Instituut, where they pursued the CDA talentacademie program, although the degree obtained is unspecified. From 1992 to 1998, they attended RKC-Waalwijk with the aim of becoming a professional football player. During the same period, they also attended Stedelijk gymnasium 's-Hertogenbosch, although the field of study is unknown. Finally, from 2012 to 2018, they attended CDA Leiden, but no specific degree or field of study is provided.
