Kate Kelly

Kate Kelly has extensive work experience in various roles and industries.

Kate currently works as the Chief of Staff at Avalanche Energy, a position they have held since 2023.

Prior to that, they worked at DreamBox Learning from 2019 to 2023, where they served as the Director of Product Management. In this role, they led a team of product managers and analysts, developed new products and functionalities, and significantly increased the company's student and educator user base.

From 2008 to 2019, they worked at Microsoft in various roles. These include serving as a Principal Lead Program Manager, where they led an international team to develop AI capabilities for Windows and other platforms. Kate was also a Chief of Staff/Principal Program Manager, responsible for defining product strategies and leading cross-functional teams. Earlier in their Microsoft career, they served as a Senior Program Manager for Cortana, leading the integration of AI into productivity experiences, and as a Program Manager for Office, where they focused on building translation support and exploring machine learning models for Office apps.

Before their tenure at Microsoft, Kate worked as an Electrical Engineer in Training at SNC Lavalin Nuclear from 2007 to 2008.

Kate also held roles at the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students, General Electric Canada, Honeywell Engines Systems and Services, MDA Space Missions, and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority early in their career.

Overall, Kate Kelly has a diverse background with expertise in product management, program management, and engineering in industries such as energy, education, technology, and aerospace.

Kate Kelly attended the University of Waterloo from 2002 to 2007, where they earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Kate also holds a certification as a Founding Fellow in "Practical Utopias: An Exploration of the Possible" from Disco, obtained in November 2022.
