Joanie Spencer currently serves as Vice President and Partner, as well as Editor-in-Chief for both Commercial Baking and Craft to Crumb at Avant Food Media since October 2020. In addition, Joanie has been a Board Member of BEMA since June 2021 and a member of Chief from July 2022 to July 2024. Prior experience includes a significant tenure at Sosland Publishing from August 2008 to October 2020, where Joanie held various editorial roles including Editor of Baking & Snack. Joanie also served as Adjunct Faculty at Rockhurst University, teaching courses in editing, feature writing, and advanced reporting/editing from August 2008 to May 2013. Earlier career roles include Senior Account Executive at BIGSHOT, Inc., Public Relations Intern at Arment Dietrich Public Relations, and Graduate Assistant / Office Manager at the Missouri Association of Publications. Joanie earned a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Theory from Rockhurst University.
