Berenice Yu has a diverse and extensive work experience. Berenice started their career in 2003 as a Junior Internal Auditor at the Office of Attorney General. Berenice then worked as a Customer Education Specialist and an Inside Sales Representative at National Instruments. In 2007, they became a Program Specialist at the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas and later an MSSW Intern at Caritas of Austin. Berenice also served as a Policy Research Intern at the City of Austin and a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Social Work Research. In 2009, they joined the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees as a Program Manager (Intern) for Community Development. Berenice then became a Senior Program Officer at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. From 2013 to 2015, they worked as a Program Officer at Rockwell Fund, Inc. Since 2015, they have been with Avenue CDC, first serving as the Director of Asset Building Programs and currently as the Chief Operating Officer.
Berenice Yu completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Spanish at Southwestern University from 2000 to 2004. In 2002 to 2003, they also pursued a B.A degree in International Economics and EU Politics at Universidad de Sevilla. Berenice furthered their education by earning a Master's of Science in Social Work (MSSW) with a focus on Community and Administrative Leadership from The University of Texas at Austin, which they completed from 2007 to 2009.
Aside from their formal education, Berenice also obtained the SHRM - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification from SHRM in February 2020.
