Joe Pegues has extensive experience in educational and support roles, currently serving as a Support Coordinator and Direct Support Professional at Avenues to Independent Living Inc. since June 2006. In addition to this, Joe has been actively involved as a Swim Coach for Tidewater Aquatic Club since September 2010 and worked as Game Day Staff for the Philadelphia Phillies from March 2009 to October 2018. Joe's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Kenyon College, a Master of Education from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from Rutgers University - Camden. Furthermore, Joe obtained a Principal's Certification in Educational Leadership and Administration from NJPSA. Prior teaching experience includes serving as a secondary English teacher at Woodbury Jr-Sr High School from September 1989 until June 2018, and earlier roles at Culver Academies as an Associate Instructor and Teaching Intern.

Avenues to Independent Living was founded in 2001. It is our goal to assist and support people with varied disabilities to live a more independent life and participate in the community. We provide supported employment and self-determination services. Avenues to Independent Living is committed to community based, inclusive activities, both working and/or recreational, as well as supported living arrangements where people with disabilities are supported to be as independent and self-reliant as possible. Our Mission Avenues enriches the lives of individuals with disabilities by promoting social engagement, community living & employment, good health, and positive relationships. Our Vision We believe that everyone has the ability to dream, thrive, and make choices for themselves regarding their care and services. Avenues to Independent Living provides in-home and community Direct-Care supports, supported employment services, support coordination, community integration activities, and much more.
