Alec Mesdag is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Alaska Electric Light and Power Company (AEL&P).
Alec Mesdag has been with AEL&P since 2012. He previously served as Vice President and Director of Energy Services and Metering and has been in his current role since 2023. In his time with AELP, Alec’s work has primarily focused on shaping how the community uses electricity by working extensively with customers, schools, government staff and elected officials, and by creating innovative rate schedules such as Alaska’s first electric vehicle rate schedule.
Alec grew up in Juneau and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. He has supported many community organizations over the years, serving on the boards for the Juneau Economic Development Council, Northern Southeast Alaska Building Industries Association, Alaska Heat Smart, Treadwell Historic Preservation and Restoration Society, and Southeast Conference.
