Jonathan Weitz (Jon)

Jonathan (Jon) Weitz has had a diverse range of work experiences throughout their career. Jonathan (Jon) started their career as an Internal Auditor at MNC Financial, Inc. in 1990 and later worked as an AVP of Financial Analysis & Reporting at Resource Bancshares, Inc. from 1991 to 1993. Jon then transitioned to the legal field, working as a Litigation Associate at Nexsen Pruet Jacobs Pollard & Robinson from 1996 to 1999.

In 1999, they joined Kiawah Island Golf Resort as the Development/General Counsel, where they oversaw the planning, budgeting, and construction of new resort facilities, including the $130 million Sanctuary Hotel. Jonathan (Jon) negotiated a development agreement to obtain necessary variances for the hotel and managed contract negotiations with architects, designers, and contractors.

Jon was then promoted to the role of SVP of Development at Riverstone Properties LLC in 2004. In this role, they managed and explored development opportunities for a vast area of 38,000 acres with an approximate market value of $450 million. Jonathan (Jon) successfully managed the valuation, planning, entitlement, and development of a luxury oceanfront condominium project on Kiawah Island, with projected sales of $358 million.

In 2006, Jon and their wife Lisa founded Avocet Hospitality Group where they currently serve as the Founder and President. With a vision to provide unique guest experiences, Jon acquired a 132-room oceanfront Holiday Inn at Folly Beach in 2009 and transformed it into the independent boutique hotel, Tides Folly Beach, through a $7 million renovation.
