Simon Shilton

Chief Fire Officer at Avon Fire and Rescue Service

Simon Shilton was appointed Chief Fire Officer for Risk Reduction and Learning and Development in January 2017.

Simon has been in the fire and rescue service for 23 years and returns to Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) having already worked here for 15 years. During that time his roles included; Station Manager responsible for Urban Search and Rescue, Training Manager, Incident Command Trainer. He also spent time as an operational firefighter at Avonmouth, Bath, Temple and Southmead fire stations.

Before rejoining AF&RS Simon worked for West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service for eight years, most recently as an Area Commander.

Simon has two children and lives in Whitchurch with his partner and pet dog. As well as enjoying walks with the dog, Simon enjoys clay pigeon shooting and family time.

Simon said: “I am delighted to hold the post of Assistant Chief Fire Officer. I am excited by the opportunity to work with the Avon Fire Authority and the Service Management Board to progress the great work already being carried out and further the excellent reputation of AF&RS in our local communities and nationally.”
