JT Genter's work experience begins in 2006, where they worked as an Accounting Services provider for Bean & Byte Counters, Inc. In 2007, they interned in the International Tax Group at Georgia-Pacific, assisting with tax filing. From 2007 to 2009, they worked as a Staff Tax Accountant at Smith & Howard, preparing tax returns for various entities. JT then moved on to Atchley & Associates, LLP as a Senior Tax Accountant from 2010 to 2012. From 2012 to 2016, JT Genter worked as a Tax Supervisor at Durbin Bennett Tax Advisors, Inc. JT then served as a Tax Manager at Cary, Trlica & Wood, PC for a brief period in 2016. Starting in 2015, they began their journey with "The Points Guy" as a Contributor and later became a Senior Points & Miles Writer from 2017 to 2020. Alongside, they worked as a Freelance Writer for NerdWallet and Forbes from 2020 to the present. Currently, they are working as the Editor-In-Chief at AwardWallet, LLC.

JT Genter earned a Bachelor of Science in Management, Accounting, and Finance from the Georgia Institute of Technology - Scheller College of Business from 2003 to 2007. Additionally, they obtained certifications as a Certified Public Accountant from both the Georgia State Board of Accountancy in October 2010 and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in December 2010.
