Saniya Afaq has a diverse range of work experience in the software engineering field. In 2004, they started their career as a Software Engineer at Sun Microsystems, where they worked on web-based solutions using JSF and J2EE technologies. During their time there, they also contributed to tutorials and published a technical article on JAAS-based security.
In 2006, Saniya joined ActivIdentity, which was later acquired by HID Global. As a Senior Software Engineer, they played a major role in developing a new platform for the Queensland Drivers Licensing project, focusing on card and credentials management. Saniya also worked on integration projects using JAXB, SAX, JAXWS, JAAS, EJB 3, and SOAP handlers.
In 2014, Saniya became a Lead Software Engineer at HID Global, leading a team of developers for the Identity Assurance Server Platform SDK. Saniya designed and developed features for card personalization and printing, utilizing technologies such as JAX-WS web services, EJB 3, Global Platform standard, and Java scripting.
In 2018, Saniya was promoted to Engineering Manager at HID Global, where they led a team and managed engineering projects. Their responsibilities included overseeing the development of software and managing the team's performance.
Currently, Saniya holds the position of Lead Software Engineer at Axiad, a role they started in 2022.
Saniya Afaq completed their Masters in Software Engineering from San Jose State University from 2003 to 2006.
