Only 1 in 9 adults with ADHD are properly diagnosed and treated—leaving up to 90% of ADHDers undiagnosed. 1 in 4 adults suspect they have ADHD but have never been evaluated. (I guess they get distracted!) 
People with untreated ADHD face 2–3x greater risk of substance abuse (Wilens & Biederman, 2008), 3x higher rates of depression, anxiety, obesity, and hypertension, 2–4x higher risk of motor vehicle accidents (Chang et al., 2014).  They have 4x higher overall medical costs (Hinnenthal et al., 2005), work productivity losses exceeding 22 days per year, and contribute to an estimated annual economic burden of $143–$266 billion in the U.S. (Doshi et al., 2012).
This adds up to a reduction in life expectancy by 8–13 years (Barkley, 2009, 2018)!
20-25% of first year college students drop out in the first year, largely due to behavioral health issues.  The average university stand to lose $100M in tuition revenue over four years and straps 10's of thousands of students with significant debt and no degree.
