Matt Ashby brought his urban planning expertise to Ayres to complement their engineering, architectural, geospatial, and environmental services. He's based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, office, but he provides planning services on projects nationwide. He served for seven years as the City of Cheyenne's planning director. His enthusiasm for vibrant community development sharpens the focus of Ayres' work on brownfield redevelopment, transportation planning, urban park and recreation planning, and landscape architecture.
His peers have noted his eye for innovation. Project accolades include the American Planning Association's Daniel Burnham Award for the Cheyenne Metropolitan Planning Organization's PlanCheyenne and the 2020 Governor's Award for Best of Place for the Windsor Mill project in Windsor, Colorado. By communicating big picture concepts in terms that cross traditional silos, he helped the region merge stormwater mitigation and brownfield remediation with the development of public park amenities to drive economic development. He demonstrated success in leveraging grant funding to build a vision and motivate investment, as exemplified by the West Edge brownfields revitalization project in Cheyenne.
Public service is important to him. He served on the Wyoming Main Street Advisory Board and the Western Planning Resources Board of Directors. He's co-chairman of the United Way of Laramie County's annual fundraising campaign.
