Mike Doherty

Land Development CAD Manager, Associate at Babbage

Mike has a passion for drafting and attention to detail, built on a foundation of “old school” drafting with the Department of Lands and Survey (now Land Information New Zealand). He has substantial experience and knowledge in all areas of civil engineering design, drafting and land surveying in New Zealand and overseas. Mike provides quality assurance for land development group’s drafted plans, checking standards and information, and he specializes in producing early conceptual layout plans for large-scale developments, especially large dairy processing plants.

Mike joined Lands and Survey as a survey draftsman/cartographer in 1980, worked in Britain from 1988 to 1993, and joined Babbage in 1994. As soon as computer aided design (CAD) tools became available he used his knowledge to get the most out of them, and as well as setting up and maintaining the CAD standards at Babbage, he trains staff to use their standards and design-drafting software. He also works with asset collection and GIS systems used by utility companies and councils. Mike has developed an expertise in natural and artificial turf for sports fields developments which has been used on sites around Auckland.
