Babbage Geotechnical Laboratory Manager, Engineering Geologist at Babbage

Wayne is a foundation soils expert, he and his team will tell you whether the land will take the structure you’re planning for it and if not, what you have to change. Wayne is a senior engineering geologist, an IANZ technical expert and heads the Babbage soils testing laboratory that is recognized as a leader in its field. As well as working on Babbage projects, the laboratory does analysis for other leading companies and is a specialist in the soil and soft rock that makes up most of Auckland’s land.

His team analyses the engineering characteristics of soils for both commercial and residential projects, buildings and roads, whether it’s a green fields or existing city site. They work in all areas of geotechnical investigations, quality assurance and quality control procedures for companies and operations throughout New Zealand. Some of their land movement monitoring work requires years of analysis.

Wayne graduated from the University of Auckland in 1979 and joined Babbage five years later. He is responsible for the in-house training of technicians and has helped the Babbage laboratory become highly regarded in its field. It’s the variety of work that he loves, taking the mundane with the high-end technically challenging jobs.
