Candace Bain

Candace Bain has a diverse and extensive work experience in software engineering, with a focus on developing applications for various industries. Candace began their career in 1993 as a Software Engineer at Silicon Graphics, Inc., where they worked on movie and image compression libraries. Candace then moved on to Macromedia, Inc., where they served as a Senior Software Engineer on the Final Cut Pro video editing application. Candace also worked at Virage, Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer, specializing in the VideoLogger application.

In 2003, Candace joined Avid Technology as a Senior Software Engineer, where they played a key role in the development of the Media Browse video editing and asset management application. Candace later transitioned to DNASTAR as a Senior Software Engineer, where they worked on ArrayStar, a C#/.NET application used for data visualization and analysis in gene expression experiments.

Candace's career then led their to Roche NimbleGen Inc., where they worked as a Software Engineer IV, contributing to the development of DEVA, a Java application for data extraction and analysis in microarray experiments. Candace then joined Backblaze Online Backup as a Senior Software Engineer, focusing on the implementation of mobile and server-side applications.

Their most recent experiences include working at GRAIL, Inc. as the Director of Software Engineering and then as a Senior Staff Software Engineer. In these roles, Candace was responsible for leading the analysis pipeline infrastructure, managing a large amount of genomic data and AWS compute infrastructure for the development of a multi-cancer early detection test.

Currently, they are working as the Principal Architect at Backblaze. Overall, Candace has a strong background in software engineering and has played significant roles in the development of various applications throughout their professional journey.

Candace Bain completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993. In 2013, they earned a Capstone Certificate in Bioinformatics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
