Principal Engineer at Backblaze

Doug Fults has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Doug began their career as a Game Developer intern at IMAGIC in 1982. Doug then co-founded Berkeley Softworks in 1983 and worked there as a Technical Staff member until 1989. Following this, Doug joined Geoworks where they held the positions of Senior Engineer, Director of Engineering, and Director of Engineering at the Berkeley Design Center. During their time at Geoworks, they played a crucial role in the development of the PC/GEOS operating system and co-authored a patent related to customizable user interfaces. In 1998, Doug co-founded Blue Mug, Inc. and served as the CO-Founder, CTO & CFO until 2003. Doug then joined AirSet, Inc. as a Software Architect and had an extensive tenure there from 2003 to 2014. In 2015, Doug served as a Senior Software Engineer at Groopt, where they were responsible for the front-end development and played a key role in enhancing the UI of the flagship product. In the same year, they joined Backblaze as a Principal Engineer.

Doug Fults attended Saratoga High School, graduating in 1979. In 1981, they enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, and completed their Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in 1983.
