John W. Martin

John Martin is the Managing Partner of Baker Botts and leads the firm's Executive Committee. Based in the Palo Alto office, Mr. Martin is the first Managing Partner in the firm's 180-year history to be based outside of Texas.

Mr. Martin, who became Managing Partner in April 2019, guides the strategic direction and growth of the firm; oversees the firm's operations in 14 cities across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific; and plays a leading role in ensuring Baker Botts' continued commitment to the highest levels of client service. In addition, Mr. Martin is dedicated to optimizing the firm's diversity & inclusion and pro bono initiatives.

In September 2019, the firm was recognized by Diversity Lab as "Mansfield Certified-Plus," for achieving representation of at least 30% women and diverse lawyers in several key areas - including significant leadership roles and promotions.

Since becoming Managing Partner, Mr. Martin has played a key role in the strategic expansion of the firm. In the summer of 2019, Mr. Martin initiated a comprehensive strategic review of the firm to galvanize ambitions across the enterprise and help focus efforts on sharpening the firm's areas of differentiation and adding scale on the East and West Coasts of the U.S. and in London, while maintaining the firm's strength and dominance in Texas.
