Matthew Jones has extensive work experience in the legal industry. Matthew started their career as a Tutor at The University of Western Australia in 1990. Matthew then worked as an Articled Clerk/Solicitor at Freehills from 1994 to 1997. Following that, they worked as a Solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from 1998 to 1999. Matthew then joined Chambers and Partners as a Legal Editor for a brief period in 1999. Matthew Jones continued their career at Freehills as a Legal Information Services Manager from 2000 to 2001 and later as a Knowledge Manager from 2001 to 2008. Matthew then moved to Herbert Smith Freehills, where they held various roles including Head of Knowledge Centres, Australia from 2009 to 2015 and Head of Knowledge and Research (Global) from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, they joined Baker McKenzie as the Director of Information and Research and later became the Director of Knowledge, Information & Research, Asia-Pacific. Currently, they are the Regional Lead for Inclusion & Diversity, Asia-Pacific at Baker McKenzie.
Matthew Jones has a strong educational background, with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from The University of Western Australia, which they completed from 1987 to 1993. Matthew later pursued a Master of Law and Management (MLM) degree in Management/Law from UNSW, graduating between 2006 and 2008. Additionally, they achieved a Master of Arts (MA) in Egyptology from Macquarie University, completing their studies from 2009 to 2012.
