Melanie Coates has extensive experience in education, beginning as an English teacher at Catonsville and Middle River Middle Schools from August 1991 to June 1997. Since September 2001, Melanie has served as a High School English Teacher at Baltimore County Public Schools, also holding roles as department chair, Journalism adviser, and Curriculum Designer. In addition, Melanie has been involved with Tuscany Group, LLC as a Curriculum Developer since August 2013, and serves as an Educator Effectiveness Master Teacher for the Maryland State Department of Education since May 2013, focusing on Common Core and PARCC assessments. Prior to this, from 2009 to May 2013, Melanie worked with NCS Pearson as a Holistic Scorer, evaluating various assessments. Melanie holds degrees in English Secondary Education and English/Language Arts Teacher Education from the University of Maryland, Goucher College, and The Johns Hopkins University.
