Julia Baez

Chief Executive Officer at Baltimore's Promise

Julia Baez is the current Chief Executive Officer at Baltimore's Promise. Previously, they served as a Steering Committee Member at the Institute for Educational Leadership from January 2016 to July 2021. Julia was also the Chief Strategy Officer at Family League of Baltimore from February 2012 to February 2017. Additionally, Julia has served as the Secretary of the Interim Board of Directors at Baltimore Children and Youth Fund from April 2019 to December 2021. Julia is currently the Chair Of The Board Of Directors at Elev8 Baltimore and has held this position since September 2018. Julia began their career in August 2005 as the Program Director + Acting Executive Director at Southeast Youth Academy (21st Century Community Learning Center). Julia then became a Family and Community Engagement Specialist for Turnaround Schools at Baltimore City Public Schools in August 2008, before assuming the role of Middle School Spanish Teacher in July 2004.

Julia Baez studied International Studies, Latin American Studies and Spanish at Dickinson College, from which they received their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Julia also holds a Teaching Certification from The Johns Hopkins University, in Spanish Language Teacher Education. Julia Baez has also completed coursework at the University of Havana, Cuba, in HIV/AIDS Policy and Public Health, through the School for International Training. Julia is certified by Baltimore City Community College in Advancing Youth Development and by Johns Hopkins University in Teaching Certification: Spanish Language Instruction. Additionally, they have a Student Diversity Trainer certification from the NATIONAL COALITION BUILDING INSTITUTE.
