Rhys Mendes serves as Deputy Governor and Advisor to the Governor at the Bank of Canada since May 2023. Prior to this role, Mendes worked at Finance Canada as Assistant Deputy Minister of Economic Policy from August 2021 to May 2023 while on secondment from the Bank of Canada. Mendes has an extensive background at the Bank of Canada from 2004 to 2021, holding various positions including Managing Director of the International Department and Economic and Financial Research, and Deputy Chief of the Canadian Economic Analysis Department. Mendes holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Toronto, along with a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from York University.
