Senior Manager, Business Operations at Banza

Kate Malin has had a varied and successful career in business operations, culinary operations, catering, events, outreach, and communications. Kate began their career in 2010 as an Administrative Assistant at the University of San Francisco, where they were responsible for staffing the Sociology Department office and supporting professors. In 2012, they moved on to become an Administrative Assistant at the French American International School in San Francisco, where they created and administered a school-wide wellness program for faculty and staff. In 2014, they worked as a Market Vendor for Brooks and Daughters, selling sprouts, microgreens, sprouted seeds/legumes, wheatgrass juice, and other goods produced by the family farm.

In 2015, they began working at The Greene Grape as a Catering Coordinator, responsible for management of the in-house catering program. Kate was successful in their efforts, resulting in a 29.6% increase in overall catering sales in 2016 concurrent with the successful launch of an online ordering system. Kate also worked as a Cheesemonger, engaging and educating customers to sell quality, artisan cheese and charcuterie.

In 2018, they joined Plated as a Culinary Operations Planner and then moved on to become a Culinary Operations Manager. That same year, they took on a role as an Event Planner & Producer for Nutshell Projects, planning and producing the UNDERSTORY plant lab, urban ecology event and workshop series.

Most recently, in 2020, Kate joined Banza as a Business Operations Associate and then moved on to become a Business Operations Manager. In addition, they have also worked for the Good Food Foundation in 2015 as an Outreach & Communications Associate and an Event Production.

Kate Malin attended New York University from 2015 to 2017, where they earned a Master of Arts (MA) in Food Studies. Prior to that, they attended the University of San Francisco from 2008 to 2012, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology, with a minor in Cultural Anthropology. In February 2020, they obtained a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Purdue University.
