Marcus Southerden serves as the Global Head of IP & Emerging Technology Legal and Head of Cybersecurity Legal for EMEA and APAC at Barclays since January 2014. In this role, Marcus oversees the legal practice related to Artificial Intelligence, Digital Assets, and Quantum Computing, while also managing Intellectual Property on a global scale. Previous positions at Barclays include Director of IP and Cyber Legal and Vice President of Global Intellectual Property, focusing on cybersecurity and IP management across multiple regions. Prior to Barclays, Marcus worked as a Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills, where significant expertise in IP litigation was developed. Educational qualifications include a degree in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford and a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property from the University of Bristol.
