Alvaro Gutierrez has a long and varied work experience. Alvaro began their career in 1998 as an Associate in Debt Capital Markets at JP Morgan. In 2003, they took on an MBA Summer Associate role in Strategic Planning at Cemex. In 2004, they returned to JP Morgan as Vice President, Principal Investments and Vice President, Strategy & Business Development. Also in 2004, they became Co-Founder and Board Member at Basic Soul SA. In 2007, they became Co-founder and Co-CEO of Kiwoko. In 2019, they became Co-Founder of Noma, a digitally-powered pet health insurance company. In April 2020, Noma merged with Barkibu, where Alvaro Gutierrez currently serves as Co-CEO.

Alvaro Gutierrez attended the British Council School from 1979 to 1988. Alvaro then went on to Universidad Pontificia Comillas, where they received an ICADE E3 in Business Management & Law between 1992 and 1998. In 2002, they completed their MBA at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
