Mark Barnett has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Mark began their career in 1991 as the General Manager and Partner of Barnett Harley-Davidson. In 2009, they became the Publisher of BarnettHarley.com/magazine and Facebook page, with extensive website traffic and a large social media following. In 2013, Mark became a Dealer for Indian Motorcycle of El Paso.

From 2014 to 2019, they were a Partner at Rides Auto Group. Additionally, from 2012 to 2017, they served as the Publisher and Editor of Barnett's Rides Classified Magazine, an auto, truck, and motorcycle classified ad publication. In 2011, Mark was the Publisher of BikeCraft Magazine.

Most recently, Mark worked as a Director for Southwest United Bancshares, Inc., a holding company that owns United Bank of El Paso Del Norte. Mark joined the company in 2020 and concluded their tenure in 2022.

Mark Barnett has a diverse education history. Mark first attended Eastwood High School in El Paso, Texas from 1973 to 1977. After graduating, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy at Reed College from 1977 to 1982. Following their undergraduate studies, they attended The University of Texas at El Paso for a short period in 1978, focusing on Mathematics, German language, and Sociology. Mark then proceeded to enroll at Harvard University's Extension School from 1983 to 1985, where they studied Mathematics, Economic History, and Russian Language. In 1985, they obtained a Masters degree in International Affairs at Columbia University, with a full fellowship. Mark also participated in a Russian Language Summer Study program at Middlebury College in 1986 on a full scholarship. Mark continued their education at Harvard University as a Special Student in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences from 1987 to 1989, specializing in Mathematics & Economics. Finally, they pursued a PhD in Economics at Columbia University from 1989 to 1990, but was one mathematics course short of completing their Masters degree.
