John McPartland

John McPartland currently serves as the BART Director for Bay Area Rapid Transit since December 2008. McPartland has extensive experience in emergency management and public service, having been a member of DMAT CA-6 from 1998 to 2011 and the Alameda County Emergency Managers Association from 1995 to 2010. A retired Colonel from the US Army, McPartland dedicated thirty-six years to active duty and reserve service, with significant assignments including various roles in operations and intelligence, and serving in leadership positions. As Battalion Chief in the City of Oakland's Fire Department from May 1971 to April 1996, McPartland managed emergency services for a major urban area. McPartland holds a Master of Public Administration from California State University - East Bay and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Management from Saint Mary's College of California.
