Aldemaro Romero Jr. is the current Dean of the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch College. Prior to their current position, they served as Chair and Professor at Arkansas State University from July 2003 to June 2009. During their time at Arkansas State University, they were responsible for a variety of tasks, including overseeing an operating budget of approximately $2 million per year, plus external research grants and contracts totaling approximately $16 million in annual expenditures.
Under Aldemaro's leadership, the number of scholarly publications increased by more than 600% and the amount of grant money received by nearly 600%. Aldemaro also developed numerous outreach programs, such as the publication of popular books, editing and writing many articles for the weekly science column in the local newspaper, producing and directing a nationally syndicated weekly radio show, as well as several TV documentaries.
Aldemaro was also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Integrative Biosciences, a peer-reviewed, open access electronic journal. Aldemaro led the initiative of having ASU sign the Talloires Declaration aimed at increasing the environmental sustainability on campus. In addition, they created and led initiatives such as the Interdisciplinary roundtables and led the initiative of creating a departmental library. Aldemaro also developed a web site in six different languages and produced a recruitment poster in Spanish.
Aldemaro Romero Jr. has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biology from the University of Miami and a Licenciado in Zoology from Universitat de Barcelona. Aldemaro also has a certification from the Ecological Society of America as a Senior Ecologist.
