Dr Mohammad Akhtar Hussain is an accomplished public health professional currently serving as an Affiliate Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Deakin University, since November 2023, and as a Staff Specialist in Public Health Medicine at Barwon Health since December 2021. Previously, Dr Hussain held various notable positions including Acting Clinical Director of Public Health and Primary Care at Barwon Health, Career Medical Officer in Public Health Medicine at the Central Coast Local Health District, and Adjunct Researcher at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research. Dr Hussain completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology from the University of Queensland and is a Fellow of the Australian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. With extensive experience in research and teaching, Dr Hussain has contributed significantly to public health initiatives and research, particularly in malaria drug policy implementation in Odisha, India.
