Ali Carr has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning multiple industries. In 2017, Ali founded Basecamp: Outdoor Jobs & More, a community on Facebook for the outdoor industry, which has grown to over 39,000 members. Ali also worked as a Senior Content Strategist at Rivian from April 2021 to July 2022. Before that, Ali was a Content and Community Lead at Nike from November 2019 to March 2021. Ali served as the Managing Editor at Gear Patrol from June 2018 to June 2019. Prior to that, Ali worked as a freelance writer and TV host focused on adventure travel and outdoor gear, contributing to publications such as Outside magazine, Wirecutter, Men's Journal, and more. Ali also worked as an Outdoor Editor at The Wirecutter, a Travel Editor at Microsoft, and in various roles at Outside magazine, including Contributing Gear Editor and Associate Managing Editor. Ali also gained experience at Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine at American Express Publishing as an Assistant Research Editor and an Editorial Intern, respectively.
Ali Carr's education history begins in 2002 when they attended the University of San Diego, where they studied Communication/Media Studies. In 2004, Ali had a study abroad experience at Syracuse University, taking courses in art history and travel writing. During the same year, Ali also attended Syracuse University in Florence, focusing on subjects such as art history, creative writing, and travel writing. From 2004 to 2006, Ali Carr pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing, Literature, and Publishing at Emerson College. In 2006, Ali completed a six-week summer publishing course, earning a certificate from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
