William Chow

William Chow has a strong background in bioinformatics, with a focus on genome assembly and sequencing. William is currently working as the Bioinformatics Production Lead at Basecamp Research, where they have been since June 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Bioinformatician at Basecamp Research from May 2021 to June 2022.

Before joining Basecamp Research, William spent over a decade at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, where they were involved in Genome Reference Informatics. William contributed to various genome reference projects, including the assembly of the Human Genome Reference Project, Zebrafish Reference Genome Project, Mouse Genome Reference Project, Pig Genome Reference Project, and others. William was also involved in sequencing and assembling vertebrate genomes as part of the Genome10k, Genomeark, and Vertebrate genome projects.

Prior to their work at the Sanger Institute, William worked as a Bioinformatician at Simon Fraser University, where they were part of the Consortium for Genomic Research on All Salmonids Program (cGRASP) from April 2005 to October 2008. William also gained experience as a Clinical Trials Protocol Developer at Alberta Health Services - Tom Baker Cancer Centre from June 2006 to October 2006.

William's earlier roles include working as a Computational Biologist/DNA Sequence Finisher at the Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre, a Data Analyst/Curator at ActivePass Pharmaceuticals, a Research Technician at Vancouver Biotech Ltd., and a QC Technician at Bayer CropScience.

William Chow earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from Simon Fraser University in 2004. William later pursued a Master of Biomedical Technology (1-year professional degree) at the University of Calgary, focusing on Clinical Trials and Business Development.
