Chief Engineer at Basemark

Timo Tossavainen has a diverse work experience that spans over two decades. Timo started their career as a Researcher at the University of Tampere, where they developed methods for biomedical signal analysis and taught courses in data structures and computer graphics. From 2006 to 2007, they worked as a Senior Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, focusing on virtual reality systems and applications research.

In 2008, Timo joined Aalto University School of Science and Technology as a Teaching Research Scientist in the Department of Media Technology. During their tenure, they conducted research on geometric computer vision, 3D reconstruction, and tracking, as well as mixed reality. Timo also developed methods and software for solving 3D reconstruction and structure-from-motion problems.

In 2012, Timo joined ZenRobotics Ltd. as a Senior Scientist, where they played a crucial role in building robotic recycling systems. Timo'sresponsibilities included developing computer vision methods for object and material recognition, as well as methods for robot motion planning and control. In 2014, they were promoted to the position of Principal Scientist and continued their contributions until 2020.

From 2017, Timo served as the Chairman of the Board at Karviaistie special education school, showcasing their leadership skills and commitment to education.

Timo'smost recent role is as the Chief Engineer at Basemark since August 2020. In this position, they manage R&D engineers and focuses on developing a safe accelerated compute stack, as well as implementing ADAS algorithms.

Timo Tossavainen has an extensive education history in the field of computer science. Timo first attended the University of Tampere from 1995 to 1999, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Computer Science. Following this, from 1999 to 2006, Timo pursued a Ph.D. at the same institution. Timo'sdoctoral studies were also focused on Computer Science.

In 2008-2009, Timo expanded their educational background by attending Teknillinen korkeakoulu-Tekniska högskolan. During this period, they engaged in Pedagogical Studies, further enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field of teaching and education.

In 2015-2016, Timo pursued a Teacher qualification (AmO) at Haaga-Helia School of Vocational Teacher Education. Though the field of study is not specified, it can be inferred that this qualification was obtained to enhance their abilities as an educator in a vocational setting.
