Erik Underwood has a diverse range of work experience in the renewable energy and sustainability industries. Erik is currently the Co-Founder and CEO of Basis Climate, a company focused on climate solutions. Prior to this, Erik served as a Mentor for cleantech and sustainability startups at Start-Up Chile. Erik also held the role of Member of the Board of Advisors at Lilac Solutions, Inc.
In 2019, Erik worked as the Director of Corporate Finance at Aela Energía, where they played a key role in financial management. Before that, they gained significant experience at Marathon Capital as an Associate, executing M&A and private placement engagements in renewable energy and power sectors across the United States and Latin America. During their time at Marathon Capital, Erik worked on notable transactions such as the sale of Enerparc Inc.'s US business, the acquisition of Onyx's portfolio of C&I assets by ARGO Infrastructure, and the sale of SoCore Energy to ENGIE North America.
Erik also had the opportunity to work as an Associate (MBA Intern) at Energize Ventures, a venture capital fund focused on energy technologies. Additionally, they gained valuable experience at Tesla as a Global Business Development intern in energy storage.
Earlier in their career, Erik held various roles at Mainstream Renewable Power, including Commercial Associate in Project Finance, Project Manager, and Development Executive. Erik also worked briefly as an Obama and DCCC Fundraiser at Grassroots Campaigns and as an intern in Corporate Securities at Greenberg Traurig.

Erik Underwood holds a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree with a focus on Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Prior to pursuing their MBA, Underwood completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with Honors in the College of Social Studies from Wesleyan University. In addition to their academic achievements, Underwood has obtained certifications such as Series 63 and Series 79 from FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority), with the latter being achieved in 2017 and the former in 2019.
