Idaho National Laboratory
Michael Woods is a research scientist at Idaho National Laboratory since May 2020, specializing in optical and Raman spectroscopy of molten salts and thermophysical property measurements. Prior experience includes serving as a graduate research assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University from August 2015 to December 2019, where studies focused on molten salt mixtures with liquid bismuth, resulting in several presentations and publications. During a brief tenure as a visiting graduate student researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Michael conducted experiments on PuO2 and NpO2 dissolution. Additional technical experience includes working as a laboratory technician at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory and providing tutoring support at Florida State University. Michael holds a PhD and an MS in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as a BS in Physics from Florida State University.
