Vice President And Head, Computational Biology at Bayer

Derek Chiang serves as the Vice President and Head of Computational Biology at Bayer Pharmaceuticals since December 2020, leading a global team focused on target identification and biomarker analyses within the Oncology portfolio. Prior to this role, Derek held the position of Director of Oncology Preclinical Analytics at Merck, where a team contributed to preclinical research and collaborations. At Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, responsibilities included overseeing machine learning for biomarker discovery in immuno-oncology and developing bioinformatics pipelines. Derek's earlier career encompasses roles at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an Assistant Professor of Genetics, a postdoctoral position at the Broad Institute, and a Ph.D. in Molecular & Cell Biology from UC Berkeley. Derek also earned a certificate in Strategic Management from Harvard Extension School.
