Kenneth Howes has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations in the environmental and regulatory sectors. Kenneth most recently served as the Executive Director of Northwest Operations at BC Oil and Gas Commission. Prior to this role, they held positions as the Director of Major Projects Decision Support at the same company and as a Senior Advisor at Lax Kw'alaams Band. Kenneth also worked as a Senior Advisor at Golder Associates, where they provided strategic regulatory advice for various projects in the BC region. Kenneth previously served as the Project Assessment Director at the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office, leading the environmental assessment processes for LNG projects. Kenneth also held managerial positions with the British Columbia Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, leading consultations and negotiations with Aboriginal groups and communities for resource development projects. Kenneth began their career as an Instructor at Northern Lights College, teaching courses in anthropology and Aboriginal law.
Kenneth Howes has a Master's Degree in Anthropology from the University of Victoria, which they obtained from 1995 to 2000. Prior to that, they completed a Diploma in Business Administration and Management, General from Camosun College, from 1990 to 1992. In addition to their education, Kenneth has obtained several certifications including CPR/AED/First Aid from St John Ambulance in May 2023, PADI Rescue Diver from PADI in 2023, Advanced Open Water Diver from PADI in 2016, PADI Open Water Diver from PADI in 2016, and Level I Free Diver from Apnea Total.
