Melissa Speirs

Melissa Speirs possesses extensive experience in animal welfare, particularly in farm animal management and advocacy. Currently, Melissa serves as the Manager of Farm Animal Welfare at the BC SPCA, where responsibilities include collaborating with farm animal organizations to enhance welfare standards and managing daily program activities. Previous roles include significant contributions to Humane Canada as a National Animal Welfare Association Representative, focusing on animal welfare codes for transportation and goat care. Melissa's background also includes project management with Veal Farmers of Ontario, research assistance at the University of Guelph, and various roles involving animal care and welfare in both research and veterinary settings. Melissa holds a Master of Science in Animal Behaviour and Welfare and a Bachelor's degree in Zoology. Continued professional development has been pursued through various emergency management and animal welfare training programs.
