Laura Smalley Emery is an experienced operations and IT professional with a strong background in the arts and nonprofit sectors. Currently serving as the Associate Director of Operations & IT at Be Strong Families since January 2021, Laura collaborates with senior management to develop operational strategies and oversees day-to-day management across multiple departments. Prior experience includes roles such as Executive Director at Chicago Fringe Opera, where Laura supervised productions and launched successful fundraising campaigns, and Communications Coordinator at Chicago Opera Theater, where Laura significantly increased social media engagement. Additional experience includes various development and marketing positions across multiple organizations, complemented by a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from DePaul University.

Our story began in 2012 when a small group of us decided to form a national organization of parents who wanted to strengthen families and communities from the inside out.
