Alexander Chan

Vp, Analytics And Machine Learning at Beacon Biosignals

Alexander Chan has a diverse work experience spanning over 17 years. Alexander is currently the VP of Algorithms at Beacon Biosignals since December 2021. Before that, they worked at Apple from 2014 to 2021, where they held the positions of Health Algorithms Manager and Health Algorithm Engineer. At Apple, they developed algorithms and applied statistical, deep learning, and DSP techniques to analyze physiological signals from sensors and other data sources.

Prior to their time at Apple, Alexander worked at VitalConnect from 2012 to 2014 as a Sr. Biomedical Engineer. There, they focused on algorithm development and biosensor technology research for mobile remote health monitoring solutions. Alexander applied machine learning and statistical signal processing techniques to process various physiological signals and combine them to obtain clinically and diagnostically relevant information.

From 2007 to 2012, Alexander was a Graduate Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, where they conducted language decoding and neuroscience research. Alexander collaborated with other researchers to study language processing and production using electrophysiology in epilepsy patients.

During the same period, they also served as a Teaching Fellow for Physiological Systems Analysis at Harvard University. Alexander assisted in teaching and running an undergraduate course, conducted lab sessions, and delivered lectures on modeling the cardiovascular and nervous systems.

In 2008, Alexander worked as a Research Intern at NeuroPace, contributing to seizure onset detection research. Alexander developed machine learning and signal processing algorithms to accurately determine electrographic onset times using intracranial EEG recordings.

Alexander's earliest work experience was as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Stanford University from 2004 to 2006. Alexander conducted research on neural prosthetic decode performance, focusing on arm movements. Alexander also worked on drosophila structural neurobiology and computational analysis and visualization, studying the structural wiring of neurons in the drosophila olfactory system.

Overall, Alexander Chan has extensive experience in algorithm development, physiological signal processing, machine learning, and statistical analysis in the fields of healthcare and neuroscience.

Alexander Chan completed their education in a chronological manner. In 2002, they attended Stanford University and received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical Computation in 2006. Following this, from 2006 to 2009, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biomedical Engineering at Harvard University. Alexander further continued their education at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics from 2006 to 2012.
