Matthew Landahl

Superintendent at Beacon City School District

Matt Landahl began his career in education in 1993 as a fourth grade teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools as part of the Teach for America corps. He taught in his placement school for five years, three years past the two year Teach for America commitment. During his teaching tenure he also was able to design and lead a summer academy for two summers.

His next step was to move to Charlottesville, Virginia to become both an assistant principal and a graduate student at the University of Virginia. He was a principal of two different elementary schools over eleven years and also earned a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Virginia. In 2011, he was awarded the “Outstanding Principal Award” from the University of Virginia.

Between 2012 and 2017 Matt served in the Ithaca City School District first as the Chief Elementary Officer, then Chief Academic Officer, and finally Deputy Superintendent for the final two and a half years. He began as the Superintendent of the Beacon City School District on July 1, 2017.

He lives in Beacon, NY with his family where they enjoy exploring the natural beauty of Beacon and the surrounding area.
