Juan Duan has a diverse work experience in the field of climate risk and catastrophe management. Juan is currently working as the Head of Financial Climate Risk at Beazley since July 2022. Prior to this, Juan worked at the Bank of England from 2017 to 2022 in various roles, including Manager - Catastrophe and Climate Risk and Risk Specialist - Catastrophe and Climate Risk. Before that, they were a Research Associate - Catastrophe Risk at AIR Worldwide from 2014 to 2017. Juan also worked as a Hydrologist at CH2M HILL (formerly Halcrow) from 2013 to 2014 and as a Hydraulic modeller (Internship) at Black & Veatch in 2012.
Juan Duan has a PhD in Hydrology and Climate Change from Imperial College London, which they obtained from 2009 to 2013. Prior to their PhD, they completed an MSc in Hydrology for Environmental Management at the same institution from 2008 to 2009. Juan also holds a BEng in Environmental Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, which they completed from 2003 to 2007. In addition, Juan obtained a certification as a Certified Catastrophe Modeller (CCM) from the AIR Institute in 2016.
