Karl Steinberg

Karl Steinberg has a diverse and extensive work experience in the healthcare industry. Karl currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Mariner Health Central, Inc. since May 2017 and holds a similar position at Beecan Health since October 2020. Previously, they have held the role of Medical Director at Scripps Home Health Services, Carlsbad by the Sea Health Center, and Vista View Post-Acute (Previously Life Care Center of Vista). Karl has also served as the President & CEO of Stone Mountain Medical Associates, Inc. Karl has been actively involved in various healthcare organizations, including the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California, where they served as Chair, and the California Association of Health Facilities, where they were a Member of the G.R. Committee. Additionally, they have been a Board Member and Past President of the California Association of Long Term Care Medicine. Karl's extensive experience in leadership and medical roles demonstrates their expertise and commitment to the field of healthcare.

Karl Steinberg began their education at Cleveland Heights High School, where they studied from 1972 to 1975. After completing high school, they attended Harvard University from 1975 to 1980, earning an AB degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.

Following their undergraduate studies, Karl pursued their MD degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine from 1983 to 1987.

Karl then enrolled at the University of California, San Diego - School of Medicine, where they completed a Family Medicine Residency from 1987 to 1990, specializing in Family Medicine.

In terms of additional certifications, Karl obtained various qualifications over the years. Karl became Board Certified in Family Medicine by The American Board of Family Medicine, Inc. in 1990. In 2008, they received a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hospice & Palliative Medicine from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). In 2014, they became a Certified Hospice Medical Director (HMDC) through the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board™. Lastly, they obtained the title of Healthcare Ethics Consultant - Certified (HEC-C) from the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) in January 2019.
