Debal Mitra has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Debal is currently working as a Senior Program Manager at Climate Policy Initiative since 2022. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Consultant at IIFCL Projects Ltd from 2021 to 2022. Before that, they held the position of Senior Director - Corporate Ratings at CARE Ratings Ltd. from 2020 to 2021.

Debal Mitra's previous experience includes working as a Senior VP & Head - Risk at Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited for a significant period from 2014 to 2019. Debal Mitra completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with a specialization in Finance from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. This program was undertaken from 1994 to 1996.

Prior to that, Debal Mitra pursued a Bachelor's degree in Technology (B.Tech) in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. This course spanned from 1989 to 1993.

Debal Mitra completed their secondary education at Delhi Public School - R. K. Puram, earning a degree called AISSCE(XII) between 1976 and 1989.
