Scott has local and international experience in construction law and major projects covering a variety of sectors, including energy and infrastructure.
Scott is an experienced and trusted construction lawyer in Bell Gully’s market-leading construction and infrastructure team.
He supports clients throughout the project lifecycle, with a focus on reviewing, drafting and negotiating construction contracts and related documents to ensure that commercial objectives are reflected, risks are managed, and disputes can be avoided.
Scott has advised owners and contractors on the construction of major projects in a wide range of sectors, including renewable energy, conventional power, oil & gas, petrochemical, nuclear, rail, water & waste, roads, airports, ports, hospitals and industrial manufacturing facilities.
He advises on bespoke construction contracts, as well as local and international standard forms, including NZS and FIDIC. Scott also has experience of the broader project agreements used in the financing and development of major energy projects, including Concession, Supply, Offtake, Long-Term Service, and Operation and Maintenance Agreements.
Scott also acts as project counsel to support clients with contract and claims management, including claims for extensions of time and cost, and issues arising from the impact of Covid-19. He has also advised international clients in crisis management and insolvency scenarios. Scott hosts client training sessions and often speaks at industry events on topics of interest.
Prior to joining Bell Gully, Scott worked in the construction and global major projects teams at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Dubai. Scott also spent time seconded to clients, Marubeni Corporation (Japan) and POSCO E&C (South Korea), where he advised on many international energy and infrastructure projects.
