Bethany Spinler has a diverse range of work experience in the education field. Bethany began their career as an AP Chemistry Teacher at Jamestown High School in 1998, where they taught for three years. In 2001, they joined the Seattle School District as a Science Teacher at The Center School, where they played a key role in the development and implementation of the high school science curriculum. Bethany also served as the school's educational technologist and led the graduation portfolio and oral defense programs.
In 2005, Bethany moved to the Bellevue School District, where they worked as an Assistant Principal at Newport High School for three years before being promoted to the role of Principal at the same school. As Principal, they led the administrative team and over 100 staff members in curriculum design, instruction, and assessment for approximately 1700 students. During their tenure, Newport High School earned recognition as a nationally ranked, Blue Ribbon, and Model Schools Winner.
In 2010, Bethany took on a new challenge as the Principal at Bellevue Big Picture School, where they led a Research and Design Team to bring the Big Picture program to Bellevue. Bethany was responsible for the successful launch of the school in September 2011, including hiring and training staff, developing guiding principles and core features of the program, forming partnerships with businesses, community, and colleges, and handling marketing, communication, and student enrollment.
Throughout their career, Bethany demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation in education, project-based learning, standards-based grading, technology integration, and community partnerships.
Bethany Spinler received a Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology from Cornell University in 1995. Bethany later obtained a Master of Arts degree in Science Education from the same university from 1996 to 1998. In 2004 and 2005, Bethany attended the University of Washington and completed the Danforth Program for Educational Leadership, earning an Administrative Credential.
