John Bortell has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. John started their career as an Undergraduate Researcher at Purdue University, where they worked from 2008 to 2010. John then joined Street Culture Mash as a Partner/Technical Director, contributing to the creative practice and fostering art and design innovation from 2010 to 2011.

In 2010, Bortell also worked as a Process Technician at Aerospoke, where they displayed expertise in materials engineering and cycling. John actively participated in various aspects of wheel production and played a crucial role in improving product quality and reducing scrap. John also took the initiative to revamp the company's online store.

Bortell later joined Detroit Diesel as a Facilities Specialist/Energy Engineer in 2011. During their time there, they implemented energy conservation measures, introduced a metering program to track utility usage accurately, and developed plans for facility modernization.

After their tenure at Detroit Diesel, Bortell transitioned to Chrysler, where they worked as a Materials Engineer specializing in powertrain and chassis plastics. John'sresponsibilities included recommending materials, conducting performance tests, and providing design and processing guidelines to design engineers. John also maintained material standards and managed supplier relationships. John'swork at Chrysler lasted from 2011 to 2014.

From 2014 to 2019, Bortell joined Nitto Americas, initially as a Product Manager for Adhesive Tapes and NVH products. In this role, they managed material development, conducted spec testing, and made material/product recommendations for automotive applications. Subsequently, they took on the position of Corporate R&D - Next Gen Mobility Special Projects, focusing on specialty materials for electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and human-machine interfaces. Bortell excelled in this role by developing a product independently and shepherding it from cradle to commercialization.

Currently, Bortell serves as a Technical Product Manager at Nitto Bend Technologies, a role they assumed in 2022.

John Bortell attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School from 2002 to 2006, but did not pursue a specific degree or field of study during this time. Later, from 2006 to 2010, they studied Materials Science and Engineering at Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. After a break in their education, from 2015 to 2021, John attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn and completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
